Ever since Donald Trump became the first billionaire president of the US, there has been increased interest in seeing uber-rich people assume the position of the president. However, as one of the most active billionaires on social media and the wealthiest man in the world, is Elon Musk plotting to become the next president of the United States?

Many of Elon Musk’s fans seem to believe the Tesla CEO would make a perfect fit for the highest office in the US. On Twitter, where he has more followers than most if not all billionaires, there have been calls for him to run for the presidency.

Some of Musk’s fans are impressed by how he has managed to build an empire of multiple companies worth billions each and feel he is fully qualified to lead the country. As the tweet below shows, this fan is endorsing Musk for the presidency because of his daring attempt to buy Twitter.

Musk also has stated some of his view on diverse energy, free speech, and more.

Competency aside, can Musk actually become the president of the United States? To the disappointment of many of his fans, the answer is no. A standing law disqualifies Musk; only a natural-born US citizen can be sworn in as president. Musk was born in South Africa.

Musk is not the first celebrity to be prevented from becoming the president because of this law. Arnold Schwarzenegger, famed bodybuilder, actor, and former governor of California could not contest for the presidency because he was not a natural-born American.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, famed bodybuilder, actor, and former governor of California could not contest for the presidency because he was not a natural-born American. A senator actually proposed a change in the constitution that would have allowed people like Schwarzenegger and Musk to run for the presidency, but the effort didn’t go far.

Even though he is prevented from being the number one citizen of the country, Musk is not shy about making his political stance known. For example, he has declared he preferred a less divisive candidate than ex-President Donald Trump, despite promising to allow him back on Twitter when he takes over.

If the law were ever to change do you think Elon would make a good president? Why or why not? Sound off in the comments!
