Elon Musk is the richest man in the world. However, what are the sources of his wealth, and how wealthy is the illustrious industrialist?

What Are Musk’s Sources of Wealth?

Musk owns 23 percent of Tesla, the world’s largest EV maker, where he is the CEO, and this is where the bulk of his massive wealth comes from. He founded SpaceX, valued at $74 billion after its last funding in February 2021. Some analysts value the rocket-making company at $100 billion.

Another company associated with Musk is Neuralink, which aims to bridge the gap between humans and technology by inserting chips inside the brain.

Musk does not receive a salary from any of the companies he controls.

How Rich is Musk?

According to Forbes, at the time of writing this article, Musk is worth a whopping $233.6 billion. That is significantly more than the runner-up, the Bernard Arnault family. Musk’s rival, Jeff Bezos, the next individual on the list, is worth $178.5 billion.

Just How Much is Musk’s Fortune?

While everybody knows Musk is worth over $200 billion, the magnitude of the wealth may not be easily grasped.

If Musk was a sports lover; he could buy up most of the major professional sports franchises in the US and Canada, including Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, National Football League, and National Hockey League.

For example, Musk is personally worth more than Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, and General Motors combined. The only auto company worth more than Musk is Toyota, and a serious bump in Tesla’s shares may even close the gap.

Musk can even buy up many financial institutions, including the Citibank group.

While it is a wild dream that would never happen, if Musk’s wealth were distributed equally to the residents of the UK, each person would be £3,000 richer!

Lastly, if you stacked 230 billion house bricks on top of each other, you will get halfway to Mars, a destination Musk has devoted half of his wealth to colonizing.
