Elon Musk has a knack for taking on new industries and making a mark. His factory in Germany makes beer, named the Giga Beir, and supplies it in bottles that resemble Tesla's upcoming Cybertruck.

One of the businesses Musk has been persistently linked to is smartphone making. Fueling the rumors of the phone's existence dubbed the "Tesla Model Pi", have been concept designs by creative illustrators that have circulated on the internet.

We round up the rumors we have heard about the Tesla Model Pi, including the features.

Design

While many concept designs are floating on the internet, the most striking ones have shown a phone resembling the popular iPhone. Which is not a bad thing as the iPhone is a very functional design and is universally beloved.

The back has a raised portion with a dark tone that houses the cameras, of which there are four in total. A Tesla logo appears under the cameras. On the front, there is no notch or other cut-outs, suggesting an under-display camera

Still on the front, designers depict the Model Pi phone will have an ultrasonic sensor under the screen for fingerprint authentication. Since Tesla has a solar business, the designers are throwing in built-in solar charging, which will make it convenient to keep the juice up.

Some renders include a coating that changes color. This is achieved by a photochromic layer that shimmers with various pigments under the sunlight.

Features

Since there are many phones on the market already, Tesla needs to differentiate its own product from competitors. Designers have imagined the following features will make the Model Pi stand out in the crowd.

Integration with Other Tesla Products

Tesla is known for making cars. Hence, it makes sense that the phone integrates with the vehicles. Owners will be able to control their vehicles remotely, like starting or ending charging, summoning, controlling the temperature or lighting, etc.

The phone should work with other products like the Powerwall, solar roof, etc.

Satellite Internet and Telephony

Musk controls SpaceX, a company that provides Starlink satellite internet services. It is a no-brainer that the Pi phone will work natively with its satellites in low earth orbit. Apart from high-speed internet, users will be able to send SMS even where there is no GSM service.

There are also rumors of Starlink including a telephony service, according to some official filings it has made. If this turns out to be accurate, the Model Pi will definitely work with the service.

Crypto Mining

Musk is a big fan of cryptocurrencies. Tesla even has considerable holdings. However, there is another tie Musk has with cryptos. When his Mars colonization ambitions materialize, the inhabitants will need a currency to commerce, which Marscoin will handle. The Pi phone will be able to mine the crypto.

Neuralink Tech

Musk is linked to Neuralink, a company that seeks to read info from the brain. Since its inception, the company has worked on many technologies, some of which will find their way into the Pi phone.

When his Mars colonization ambitions materialize, the inhabitants will need a currency to commerce, which Marscoin will handle. The Pi phone will be able to mine the crypto.

Release Date and Price of the Pi Phone

There is no release date yet, but it is believed Tesla is working on the phone. Similarly, there is no info about the pricing. But knowing Musk's penchant for making mass-market products, the phone should not be too expensive when released.
