Tesla is known for making and selling battery-electric vehicles. However, the company will soon be lending its name to another radically different product from electric vehicles; the Tesla Bot. As you can expect, the Tesla Bot will share some of the technologies that make Tesla EVs great.

What is the Tesla Bot, and how will it fit into modern life? This article answers these questions and much more.

What is Tesla Bot?

If you have ever seen humanoid robots, Elon Musk is about to bring them to life in his all-glorious Elon Musk fashion! The Tesla Bot stands at human height, on two feet, and will move about just like a human.

The robot weighs 125 pounds and has a rather sleek appearance, with a white body and a black head and shoulders. With feet seemingly shod in knee-high boots, the robot looks set for any work you may throw at it.

How Does The Tesla Bot Function?

Musk claimed at the unveiling of the robot that Tesla has most of the technology required. It will import the artificial intelligence that powers its automotive self-driving tech, especially Autopilot, for the Tesla Bot to navigate completely unaided.

It will follow routes, handle traffic, avoid obstacles, etc. However, the Tesla Bot will move at speeds far less than those of the cars.

What Will The Tesla Bot Be Used For?

Musk imagines the Tesla Bot being helpful in industrial and domestic settings. For example, the robot can perform repetitive tasks involved in manufacturing or handle those situations that may be deemed too dangerous for humans.

The Tesla Bot may also be used to run errands. Thanks to its autonomous movement ability, you can send the robot to the store in the neighborhood as well as have it tend to do chores and move things around the house.

What Are The Concerns About The Tesla Bot?

Like most new tech, the Tesla Bot has raised some fears. One of the most recurring fears is that robots like the Tesla Bot might over-power humans. And this, combined with the bot’s intelligence, the results could be disastrous.

However, Musk has said the Tesla Bot would be designed to be easily overpowered by humans.

Critics have also pointed to the state of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving, which has been implicated in multiple car crashes.

However, the Tesla Bot will not move at the same speeds as vehicles, reducing the likelihood of casualties. Moreover, Tesla has been continually updating the software, making it better.
